Book Review: "The Go-Giver" by Bob Burg & John David Mann

The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea” by Bob Burg & John David Mann is a great read, short and to the point, with five key laws the authors recommend you follow. The story focuses on Joe, a “go-getter” salesman who is desperate to improve his results. Joe meets a man known as the “Chairman” who is recognized as something of a guru to business owners countrywide and from whom he learns the five laws of stratospheric success. As the power of implementing the laws becomes apparent to Joe he moves from being a go-getter to a go-giver and his business results shift dramatically.

Some of the insights from the book are:

  • Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.

  • Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.

  • If you want more success, find a way to serve more people. It’s that simple.

  • Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.

This book is an excellent read for everyone in business, not just those in Sales. If your professional life feels challenging and a struggle at times, direct your focus outwardly towards others instead of inwardly towards yourself. The shift in mindset will pay big dividends.
